2002 SCCA GT-1 Champion Tim Cowen To Focus on Motorock
Trans-Am Series in 2004
PERRYSVILLE, Ohio (March 26, 2004) ‹ 2002 SCCA GT-1 National Champion Tim
Cowen is planning to compete in at least five of the 10 confirmed Motorock
Trans-Am Series events this year in his No. 75 Cowen Truck Lines Ford
Mustang. The longtime GT-1 racer plans to forgo any SCCA GT-1 Club Racing
competition this season to concentrate on his Trans-Am effort.
³We¹re planning only to compete at the professional level in Trans-Am this
year,² said Cowen. ³We are really looking at picking up our Trans-Am
program. We won the SCCA National Championship, and now we¹re ready to take
it to the next level.²
Cowen was pleased with the recently announced GT-1 Development program. The
Program, which was officially announced earlier this month, is designed to
better facilitate GT-1 involvement and development in the Series.
³This is nice for the GT-1 teams,² said Cowen, who competed in three
Trans-Am races last season. ³Plus, the rules are pretty conducive to jumping
back and forth between GT-1 and Trans-Am competition.
³GT-1 needs Trans-Am,² added Cowen, who has competed part-time in Trans-Am
competition since 2000. ³A GT-1 competitor¹s goal is to be a Trans-Am racer,
and competing in Trans-Am gives them experience. It also helps Trans-Am
build its field for the future. If a GT-1 competitor enjoys some success in
Trans-Am competition, and wins the GT-1 Championship, that competitor has
the incentive to compete in Trans-Am full time.²
The Motorock Trans-Am Series features closed-fendered, production-based,

America¹s oldest continuously running road racing series and celebrates its
39th anniversary in 2004.
