OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Unveils LED Rear Back-up Lighting in American Superlite Truck
LOUISVILLE, Ky.--March 25, 2004--OSRAM's Industry Lighting "First" for Light Trucks Displayed at Mid-American Trucking Show |
OSRAM Opto Semiconductors today announced that American Superlite Inc. (ASL) is premiering OSRAM's lead-free Golden DRAGON(TM) LED in a new, rear-back-up, light-truck application at the Mid-American Trucking Show (Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center, March 25-27). This introduction represents the first time OSRAM's highly specialized, patented LED solution is used in an American light-truck design.
ASL is featuring the OSRAM's Golden DRAGON LED in its four-inch, round back-up light (SL4800) and oval back-up light (SL8800). The OSRAM white Golden DRAGON LED can effectively perform in rear-back-up, light-truck applications as well as forward lighting applications such as high- and low-beam headlamps and front fog lamps. This LED typically produces 25 lumens of light at 350mA in a true surface mount (SMT) package. The SMT package assembles easily with standard "pick and place" equipment and can provide added flexibility in design and reduced cost for assembly.
"ASL is proud to be joining forces with OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. We selected the OSRAM Golden DRAGON for its superb brightness and true white color as well as for its high reliability and exceptional long life," said Art Ter-Hovhavessian, president of American Superlite Inc. "The power and compact size of OSRAM's LED offers our designers the color quality and dynamic styling options we were seeking."
"Our association with ASL demonstrates a new and exciting opportunity for OSRAM Opto Semiconductors within the heavy-duty, light-trucking sector," said Tom Shottes, president and chief executive officer, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Inc. "OSRAM's Golden DRAGON provides an energy-efficiency solution to meet ASL's highly specialized engineering needs."
This announcement represents the latest in a string of automotive successes for OSRAM Opto Semiconductors. These critical design wins have enabled the company to become leading automotive supplier of interior and exterior LED lighting solutions in the world. The company's newest and most progressive LED products were prominently showcased in the "Hyundai HCD8" concept vehicle and in a number of Ford GT, Cobra and Mustang models at both the Chicago Auto Show and the 2004 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. At these two events OSRAM Opto Semiconductors also successfully highlighted the performance scalability of the company's Advanced Power TOPLED(R), Power TOPLED and miniature SMARTLED(TM) LED portfolio.
