ArvinMeritor to Provide SCR Emissions Systems on IVECO Trucks

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 24 -- ArvinMeritor, Inc.'s Commercial Vehicle Systems group announced today that its Selective Catalytic Reduction/silencer (SCR) unit will be standard on IVECO's heavy-duty Cursor series, which includes 28,000 trucks and specialty vehicles per year.

The SCR system meets the NOx reduction requirements established for Euro IV (2005), and potentially Euro V (2008) emission regulations.

Since 2002, ArvinMeritor has supplied 30,000 Euro III exhaust systems per year to IVECO.

"We are pleased to take a major step ahead with IVECO in aftertreatment systems," said Pedro Ferro, vice president and general manager, ArvinMeritor Commercial Vehicle Exhaust. "This new business not only strengthens our relationship with IVECO, but also solidifies our position as a leader in the heavy-duty aftertreatment industry."

The SCR system works by metering a precise amount of the reagent urea into the engine's exhaust stream. The urea decomposes to ammonia and reacts with NOx across a catalyst located downstream of the injection point. This reaction reduces NOx to elemental nitrogen and water vapor.

"NOx reductions of 70-90 percent are possible," said Clive Telford, director of Engineering, Commercial Vehicle Exhaust, ArvinMeritor.

In addition to its emissions research in Europe, ArvinMeritor is developing several solutions to reduce emissions from diesel engines in the United States. While no solution has been standardized yet within the U.S. trucking industry, ArvinMeritor continues to develop leading edge technologies to help meet the US EPA 2007 regulations.

IVECO, a company in the Fiat Group, is one of the leading international manufacturers of commercial vehicles and diesel engines. It was founded in 1975 as a result of the merger of five leading, traditional European manufacturers. IVECO is headquartered in Torino, Italy, and has manufacturing plants throughout the world, including Italy, Spain and Germany.
