Bronx School Wins Visit From Humanoid Robot

- Special ASIMO Demonstration Scheduled for March 23 -
WHAT: Students from MS 390, a public middle school in the Bronx,
will receive a one-of-a-kind visit from ASIMO, the world's
most advanced humanoid robot, as their prize for winning the
ASIMO Essay Contest, a national essay contest on the future
of robotics. Members of the media are invited to attend
this special demonstration on Tuesday, March 23 at
10:30 a.m., with an audience of MS 390 students.
This event will include a live educational and interactive
demonstration of ASIMO and an opportunity to learn more
about the students of MS 390. ASIMO will demonstrate its
technical abilities, including walking forward and
backward, turning smoothly, balancing on one leg, dancing
and even climbing stairs. The MS 390 students responsible
for writing the winning essay will also be available to
discuss their essay and the school's "RoboLab" program, the
only one of its kind in the Bronx.

BACKGROUND: MS 390 is a New York City Department of Education public
middle school, serving students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8.
The school is in the process of strengthening its
educational programs and restructuring its academic
curriculum. One of the unique programs that the school
offers is RoboLab, where more than 220 students meet twice a
week to build small robots and program them to perform
specific challenges.
ASIMO's visit to the Bronx is the final stop of the "Say
Hello to ASIMO" North American Educational Tour, which is
designed to inspire and encourage students to pursue
academic study in the sciences. The tour is sponsored by
American Honda. Since the launch of the tour in January
2003, ASIMO has been demonstrated across the U.S. and Canada
for more than 80,000 students and museum visitors at top
science and technology museums and educational institutions.
