Terry Borcheller - Sebring race

Terry Borcheller scored his first American Le Mans Series podium finish of
the season, after a trying Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring (Fla.) race.
Borcheller, of Gainesville, Ga., drove the No. 63 ACEMCO Motorsports Saleen S7R with
David Brabham of Maidenhead, England, and Johnny Mowlem of London, England. The
trio finished third in the GTS class.

spinning start

Borcheller was unable to post a fast qualifying lap on the 3.7-mile Sebring
International Raceway road course due to a spin, exacerbated by a scuffed brake
rotor.

"We rushed to make the qualifying session, but we had so many obstacles," he
recounted. "We had no heat in the motor, so I was concentrating on getting
engine temp on my out-lap, which is normally the lap that I get the brakes in. I
was pushing hard to try to post a good time, I made a mistake and I spun. The
right-rear rotor caught and the brake clamped down like it had a padlock on
it. I went instantly backwards."

race results

Borcheller started fifth on the GTS grid and moved up to third in the first
40 minutes of the 12-hour race. He grabbed second place during his second stint
during the fourth hour. The team then encountered a series of mechanical
problems that necessitated several extra pitstops, including two that consumed
almost an hour of valuable track time. Despite the challenges, the team rallied
to finish third in class, earning both regular championship points and bonus
points for the long race.

"Considering the weekend and all the obstacles we had, it's amazing to come
out with a podium and points," Borcheller said. "To get the points was huge for
us, with everything that was going on all week. We had multiple new-car bugs;
we even shipped a new engine to the track. The team did an awesome job - they
stayed at the track until 5 am on race day, went back and had a shower and
maybe an hour's sleep. We had a good race from the driver standpoint, too -
David and Johnny did a really good job."

next

Borcheller will drive the No. 44 TheRaceSite.com Racing Porsche 996 in the
Grand-Am Cup race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla., on March 28.
