CHEVROLET TO POWER PATRICK RACING AND AL UNSER JR. IN IRL

PHOENIX, March 21, 2004 - Partnerships that produced a total of 26
open-wheel victories, two Indianapolis 500 titles and two national
championships will be renewed when Chevrolet powers Patrick Racing and
driver Al Unser Jr. in the IRL IndyCar Series. GM Racing IRL program
manager Joe Negri announced today at Phoenix International Raceway that
Patrick Racing will use Chevy Indy V-8 engines in 2004, starting with the
team's IRL debut at the Indianapolis 500.

"GM Racing and Chevrolet are pleased to add a team owner and driver who
are proven winners to Chevy's IRL lineup," said Negri. "Chevrolet and GM
have enjoyed great success in the past with Pat Patrick and Al Unser Jr.,
and we look forward to an even more successful future with this
championship-caliber combination."

Chevy Indy V-8 engines propelled Patrick Racing to 10 CART victories, the
1989 Indy 500 crown, and the 1989 Indy Car World Series championship with
driver Emerson Fittipaldi. Al Unser Jr. won 14 CART races, the 1990
national championship and the 1992 Indianapolis 500 with turbocharged Chevy
Indy V-8 powerplants. Unser also scored his first two career IRL victories
with GM engines. The Patrick Racing team will use a new 3.0-liter version
of the naturally aspirated Chevy Indy V-8 that will be introduced at the
Indy 500 in May.

"Chevrolet and GM have longstanding relationships with both Pat Patrick and
Al Unser Jr.," Negri noted. "Pat was the key figure in the creation of
the American Racing Series with Buick V-6 engines, which later became the
Indy Lights series. Al scored many of his most memorable victories with
Chevy Indy V-8 engines. Chevrolet's IRL roster has definitely been
strengthened with the addition of a team owner and driver who know how to
win."

The addition of Patrick Racing expands Chevrolet's IRL roster to six
cars. Other Chevrolet-powered IRL IndyCar Series teams include Panther
Racing (drivers Tomas Scheckter and Mark Taylor), Red Bull Cheever Racing
(drivers Alex Barron and Ed Carpenter) and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (driver
Robbie Buhl). The Chevrolet name has been associated with IndyCar
competition since company co-founder and namesake Louis Chevrolet competed
in the early days of the Indy 500.
