TRIMSPA's Stremme Earns Back-to-Back Top-Five Finishes In First Darlington Start

DARLINGTON, S.C., and CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J., March 20 -- Team TRIMSPA driver David Stremme posted his second top-five finish of 2004 in only his first start at Darlington Raceway finishing a strong fifth through a combination of veteran-like driving and strong pit stops.

"To come out of here with a top five finish is awesome," explained Stremme, driver of the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge. "It says a lot about the strength of our organization. Darlington is notorious for being a difficult on rookie drivers. I was just focusing on racing the racetrack and driving a smart race."

Stremme received his official "Darlington Stripe" in the final minutes of Friday's happy hour, as the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge scraped the wall exiting Turn 2. The TRIMSPA Team worked late to mend the flattened side and Stremme's Dodge was as good as new.

"Placing in the top is a remarkable accomplishment," said Alex Goen, CEO of TRIMSPA. "David continues to be on a tear we cannot wait until next week's race in Bristol."

During the 147-lap race, Stremme climbed steadily, breaking into the Top 10 by Lap 58. The TRIMSPA pit crew gained Stremme ten positions in the pits during three pits stops under caution. Crew chief Todd Lohse called for slight air pressure adjustments on the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge during the day's three pit stops as the car was handling to Stremme's liking.

Stremme's car was strongest on the long runs as he climbed into the second position by Lap 105. Over the final 30 laps the Stremme's tires began to wear from abrasive track's surface. Stremme held on to finish fifth on the day, raising him two spots in the Busch Series points to a career best eight place.

Stremme will look to continue his success at Bristol Motor Speedway on March 27th.
