XM Satellite Radio Driver Bryan Herta Qualifies Ninth at
Phoenix
AVONDALE, Ariz. (March 20, 2004) -.XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan
Herta earned the ninth starting position for tomorrow's Indy Racing LeagueŽ
IndyCarŽ Series Copper World Indy 200 with a lap of 172.062 miles per hour
around Phoenix International Raceway.
Herta was only allowed one qualifying lap after his car was held up in pre-
qualifying technical inspection. Despite the shortened run, Herta and the XM
Satellite Radio team persevered and were able to earn a top-10 starting position.
Herta's Andretti Green Racing teammate, Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver
Dan Wheldon earned his first career pole position with a lap at 174.779 miles per
hour and will be joined on the front row by Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan
who qualified second. It marks the second time that Andretti Green Racing has
started 1-2; the other time was at Homestead in 2003. Dario Franchitti will roll off
the grid from the seventh position in the Archipelago Exchange entry.
The Copper World Indy 200, Round 2 of the IndyCar Series schedule, will
start just after 4 p.m. (EST) tomorrow. The 200-mile event will air live on ABC
Sports.
Bryan Herta, Driver, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"I'm really happy for Dan to get his first pole position, I got my first pole
here in 1995, so I know what that feels like. We just didn't have the car to get the
pole today, we just needed a little bit more balance. We gambled on the setup a
little bit and it just didn't work out. The XM Satellite Radio team has been
working on our race setup so I think we'll be good tomorrow."
George Klotz, Team Manager, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"We got a little hung up in pre-qualifying tech and had to adjust something
that had been fine all weekend. I guess that's the way it goes. We feel we could
have done better but that is all we had today. We've worked on our race setup
and we feel that we have a good car for tomorrow."
