Summit Award winners were chosen from among 46 individuals and teams that received quarterly awards under Visteon's Leading the Way recognition program in 2003. Representing eight countries, the Summit Award winners were recognized for achievements ranging from innovation and customer service to community service, new business and process improvements.
"Visteon is committed to establishing a collaborative, performance-driven culture in which we recognize and celebrate the success of individuals and teams achieving breakthrough performance," said Peter J. Pestillo, Visteon chairman and chief executive officer. "I am very proud of Visteon's first Summit Award winners, and of all 289 individuals and teams who were nominated by their leaders and peers for Leading the Way Awards throughout the year. It was no easy task selecting just six winners, as each of the nominees demonstrated exemplary performance."
Michael F. Johnston, Visteon president and chief operating officer, said achievements of the Summit Award winners represent the "best of the best" of Visteon's accomplishments in 2003. "Our Summit Award winners embody the energy, perseverance and ability to execute that will be hallmarks of Visteon's future success," he noted.
Visteon's 2003 Summit Award winners are:
* Hybrid Radio Concept Team, Arbor Plant, Sao Paolo, Brazil - This 10- member team developed a concept radio for vehicles, with much of the work occurring after normal business hours. The concept was used by Visteon to successfully win new business with VW-Shanghai in China.
* Alfeu Doria, general manager, electronic systems, YanFeng Visteon Electronics joint venture, Shanghai, China - Doria arranged for Visteon staff engineers to carry out a detailed review of the plant's operating practices, and spearheaded a plan to improve process flow, material and product control, and use lean cells. The plan was implemented in September 2003, resulting in a significant increase in Visteon's new business win rate in China.
* Instrument Panel Capacity Team, YanFeng Visteon joint venture, Shanghai, China; and Saline (Michigan) Plant - This six-member team managed a rapid increase in production of instrument panels for the Shanghai GM Buick Regal, delivering outstanding customer satisfaction. The team reduced production cycle time, added a third shift and moved to a seven-day production schedule without missing a shipment. Technical support specialists in Saline expedited the fabrication and validation of additional tools to support Visteon's supply of IPs for one of China's fastest-growing vehicles.
* Chriss Chavez, manufacturing superintendent, Glass Systems, Nashville, Tennessee - Honored for her community commitment, Chavez has been an active supporter of company United Way fund-raising campaigns, Day of Caring activities and other philanthropic events for the past five years. Recently transferred to Nashville from Visteon's Tulsa (Oklahoma) Glass Plant, Chavez helped found the Oklahoma Professional Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and was vice-chair of the Tulsa Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, which she helped create.
* Advanced Front Lighting System Team, Autopal, S.R.O., Czech Republic - This eight-member team demonstrated innovation by providing new-generation headlamps with cooperation from automakers PSA and SKODA. The headlamps feature new technology including horizontal swivel low beams, bifunctional xenon projector systems, side illumination, and new units geared for daytime, highway and bad weather driving. The project required mechanical, electrical and optical development. This new system received an Innovation Prize in the auto parts category at the 2002 Frankfurt Auto Show.
* Clone Cluster 1 Team - This 46-member team of finance and information technology professionals executed a major initiative related to Visteon's separation from Ford's IT system. Clone Cluster 1 was the first major milestone in this separation, involving the migration of finance applications from Ford to Visteon servers. The team -- with members in the United States, France, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Germany -- accomplished this critical task on an aggressive time schedule with minimal business disruption.
The Leading the Way recognition program is open to all Visteon employees. It rewards exceptional performance, accomplishments and behavior, or results representing marked improvement in areas such as quality, value, speed and people. Visteon's 12-member Strategy Council selects the quarterly Leading the Way winners from among those nominated. Pestillo and Johnston selected the six Summit Award winners from among the quarterly Leading the Way winners. Visteon's 2003 Summit Award winners include employees from the United States, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Germany and the United Kingdom.
