EDS, American Axle & Manufacturing Extend Their Long Relationship
EDS Leverages Knowledge, Resources to Drive Operational Efficiencies and Cost Reduction for American Axle & Manufacturing
DETROIT, March 17 -- EDS today announced a five-year information technology (IT) agreement with American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (AAM). EDS will provide business and technical resources to deliver IT services at the direction of AAM. The contract extends the decade-long relationship between the two companies. Financial terms of the extension were not disclosed.
"AAM is committed to reducing costs while delivering quality products and services to its customers," said Darl Davidson, EDS' Manufacturing Industry Group. "EDS is aligned with these goals, and will deliver value as part of the AAM team. This new agreement underscores AAM's confidence in EDS' leadership in delivering technology services and solutions to the automotive sector."
AAM is a world leader in the manufacture, design, engineering, and validation of driveline systems and related components and modules, chassis systems and forged products for trucks, sport utility vehicles and passenger cars. In addition to its 14 locations in the United States (in Michigan, New York and Ohio), AAM also has offices and facilities in Brazil, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Scotland.
Over the last decade, AAM and EDS have worked to assure the company has best-in-class technology services. In 2003, the AAM-EDS team was tested and passed with flying colors. The team provided IT services for the move of nearly 800 AAM associates from various locations to support the occupancy of the new AAM World Headquarter building in Detroit without disruption to critical IT infrastructure and business applications.
The August 2003 U.S. electricity Northeast blackout cut off all power at AAM facilities in Detroit. EDS supported the AAM team in the implementation of AAM's IT disaster plan. The result was a seamless recovery of IT services from the manufacturing floors to the executive offices.
