First Start at Darlington Nothing New to Stremme

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 12, 2004) – When TRIMSPA driver David Stremme
buckles in to race at Darlington Raceway in the Diamond Hill Plywood Co. 200 next
weekend, it will be his first look at the historic speedway. For a young NASCAR
driver with only 21 starts, Darlington can be an intimidating track. But
Stremme has proven time and time again he can run well in his first visit to a
speedway.
“The drivers call Darlington the ‘Lady to Tough to Tame’,” said
Stremme. “I’m not looking to tame anything. I just want to have a nice date
with her. I don’t need her to bite us. We are just looking to stay out of
trouble, fall in and get a decent finish.”
This will be Stremme’s third first-time visit to a track in the
2004 Busch season. Stremme finished sixth in his first visit to Daytona
International Speedway, and third in his first visit to Las Vegas Motor Speedway just
one week ago. While the driver of the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge has become known as a
quick learner in his brief career, Stremme is also aware of the living
history that Darlington represents.
“Just driving from Charlotte to a race at Darlington is a
reminder of NASCAR’s roots,” explains Stremme. “Last week we raced at Las Vegas. The
huge crowd and new market shows you how much the sport has developed into the
mainstream. But driving those two lane roads to Darlington reminds you of
where NASCAR came from, and what racing still is for most local weekend racers.”
While Darlington Raceway may be historic, one thing has changed.
The track has been fitted with the recently designed safe wall barriers, an
example of NASCAR’s cutting edge safety technology.
“I don’t really care to find out how well they work,” said
Stremme. “I just applaud NASCAR and Darlington Raceway for continuing to make this
a safer sport. I look forward to having them at all tracks.”
Stremme will again be driving Braun Racing chassis ten this
weekend at Darlington. It is the same car that sat on the outside pole at North
Carolina Speedway and finished third at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, both this
season.
“Right now that’s my favorite car,” admits Stremme. “That’s why
we are taking it to three out of the first four races. But I have a lot of
faith in the rest of our equipment, and our team’s ability to prepare these cars
from the ground up. Heck, we have McMurray’s winning car from Rockingham and
we aren’t even taking it as the primary.”
Stremme and the X32 TRIMSPA Team will look for another strong
finish when they visit Darlington Raceway for the Diamond Hill Plywood Co. 200
next weekend. The race will be televised live, March 20, at 12:30 p.m. eastern
time on FX, and broadcast nationally on radio stations affiliated with Motor
Racing Network.
