Henkel Technologies Launches Chrome-Free Wheel Treatment
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich., March 9 -- Henkel Technologies recently launched Alodine(R) 4595 in anticipation of industry needs and the requirement to remove all hexavalent chromium from automobiles. Alodine 4595 is an advanced, chrome-free aluminium wheel pre-treatment that offers superior corrosion protection, paint adhesion and also eliminates legacy costs.
Alodine 4595 is made from a blend of organic polymers and inorganic metals. Unlike competitive products, this Henkel Technologies innovation does not require additional manufacturing process steps, such as extra rinse and pre-treatment stages. This avoids time-consuming reconfigurations and capital-intensive line upgrades.
"By taking a process approach to the challenge of delivering a chrome-free solution to our customers, we developed a product that is completely compatible with all the chemicals and equipment already on the line," said Chuck Evans, vice president, automotive components, Henkel Technologies. "Eliminating the step of chrome removal also lessens the environmental impact and increases manufacturing efficiency while reducing costs."
By offering a chrome-free pre-treatment, Henkel Technologies also helps its customers avoid waste-treatment costs, increasing safety for plant employees and the surrounding communities.
Alodine 4595 was implemented by one of Henkel Technologies' Northern Indiana wheel manufacturing customers in December of 2003 and four additional customers are expected to begin using the product by the end of this year.
