QNX Helps Visteon Extend Telematics Offerings
DETROIT -- SAE WORLD CONGRESS -- March 9 -- QNX Software Systems announced today that Visteon Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest automotive suppliers in the world, has selected QNX to supply automotive-grade software for its next-generation in-car computing platforms.
QNX will supply Visteon with software and services for multiple in-car computing and telematics projects. One of the first projects will further enhance Visteon's Bluetooth hands-free communications platform. The companies will also collaborate in the development of telematics applications such as navigation and infotainment, as well as safety and security features for collision warning and avoidance.
Auto manufacturers are demanding the kind of in-service reliability previously known only in areas such as medical equipment or space systems. As a result, QNX is emerging as the leading provider of software in embedded devices for telematics applications. According to telematics industry analyst firm Telematics Research Group, by the year 2010, globally 97 million telematics-enabled cars and light trucks will be on the road, 45 million North America alone.
QNX will supply Visteon with both the QNX(R) Momentics(R) software development tool suite and the QNX Neutrino(R) real-time operating system. In addition, QNX will aid Visteon's development process through custom engineering, hardware integration, on-site training, dedicated technical support and other specialized services.
"QNX has taken the pole position in the automotive telematics market, thanks largely to its 23 year track record of delivering exceptionally reliable, high-performance software," said Dan Dodge, president and CEO of QNX Software Systems. "By working with companies like Visteon, we are helping to create a world where drivers and passengers can take advantage of everything that technology has to offer without compromising safety and reliability."
