QNX Continues Telematics Drive in Asia With New Deals and Strong Play in China

DETROIT -- SAE WORLD CONGRESS, March 9 -- QNX Software Systems today announced that four tier-one automotive suppliers have selected the QNX(R) Neutrino(R) realtime operating system (RTOS) for several next- generation, in-car navigation systems now available in the Korean and Chinese markets. With these commercial deployments, QNX is rapidly emerging as the OS of choice for infotainment and navigation systems in the Asian market. To better serve the rapidly evolving auto industry in Asia and particularly China where production of automotive units grew nearly 40 percent in 2003, QNX is also introducing new Chinese character code fonts to ensure easy customization between geographic markets and languages.

QNX is now working with LG Electronics, Hyundai Autonet, Hyundai Mobis, IBM Korea, and NAVIS to bring the most advanced infotainment systems with simple, intuitive user interfaces to consumers in Asia. In 2004, QNX software will be found in vehicle models from automakers such as Daewoo, Hyundai and Ssangyong.

Given the high density of vehicles on the roads in Asia, navigation systems have taken off as the must-have application for Asian consumers. Improved graphics and 3D technologies, sophisticated location-based services and increasingly tech-savvy consumers are driving demand for more cutting-edge navigation systems.   -- LG Electronics: Now available, the MTSII from LG Electronics delivers
     a rich set of features such as voice activation, e-mail and calendar
     scheduling, and automatic car-accident notification with services such
     as security-tracking, real-time traffic information, news and weather
     updates, and is optimized to use Hyundai's new MOZEN telematics
     service.
  -- Daewoo VisionJoy: Designed by NAVIS and Daewoo Precision Industries,
     the VisionJoy system is an integrated navigation and information unit
     that uses a touch screen interface, rich 3D mapping, and GPS-enabled
     communications to provide drivers with services such as traffic and
     congestion updates, automatic route selection, and detailed "turn-by-
     turn" voice directions. The VisionJoy system is currently available as
     an aftermarket product in Korea through Daewoo's network of automotive
     retailers.
  -- The Chairman from Ssangyong Motors: Similar to the Daewoo VisionJoy
     system, this navigation unit, also designed by NAVIS and Daewoo
     Precision Industries, comes built into the new luxury Chairman from
     Ssangyong Motors, which features a Mercedes-Benz V6 engine and 5-speed
     transmission. The Chairman is available in Korea and China.
  -- Shenzhen Hangsheng Electronics: NAVIS is using QNX Neutrino in the
     development of infotainment and navigation systems with Shenzhen
     Hangsheng, one of China's largest electronics companies and a supplier
     to most of the major automakers in China.
  -- Hyundai Mobis MTS-1: Designed by Hyundai Mobis for vehicles from
     Hyundai Motor Company, MTS-1 is a sophisticated multimedia terminal
     that delivers traffic information, entertainment, and vehicle
     diagnostics. Through the MTS-1 unit, vehicle owners will be able to
     access the MOZEN telematics service from Hyundai, which provides safety
     services such as emergency aid, stolen vehicle tracking service, and
     notification of air-bag operation, as well as information about
     restaurants, travels, stock market, weather, and realtime traffic
     conditions.

These in-car telematics units take advantage of QNX Neutrino's proven realtime capabilities and modular, memory-protected design. A range of integrated QNX software modules, including the Photon microGUI(R) windowing system, graphics drivers, networking stacks and a flash file manager, help deliver a seamless user experience.

Most recently, QNX has included additional features to support customers wishing to adapt their products for multiple geographic markets. For devices requiring display terminals, QNX now supports Chinese character encoding based on the GB18030 encoding standard, as required by Chinese import regulations. QNX's graphical user interface technology can display Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and English characters simultaneously, as well as support multiple language input methods, making it easy to customize applications between countries.
