DMR Consulting Selects Vitria Technology for Its V-Chain Project to Streamline Ford Spain's Overall Supply Chain Management

Vitria:BusinessWare to enable real-time collaboration between Ford and its suppliers for time and cost savings

MADRID, Spain, March 8 -- Vitria , a leading provider of business process integration solutions, today announced that DMR Consulting has selected the Vitria:BusinessWare(TM) platform for its V-Chain project, initiated to streamline operations between Ford's plant in Almussafes, Spain and its suppliers and logistics operator. The V-Chain project is being applied to Ford's supply chain with the participation of DMR Consulting, the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia and Ford's top-level European suppliers.

Vitria is key to DMR's plan to improve Ford Spain's overall supply chain management and will be instrumental in facilitating the flow of information across the production process, from the industrial park to the production line. Specifically, Vitria:BusinessWare will manage the business interactions between Ford and its suppliers, allowing information, as well as any changes or errors in the production line, to be transmitted to all parties in real- time.

"Vitria:BusinessWare has been an important element of our solution portfolio during the pilot phase of the V-Chain project," said Roque Alonso, manager of material and logistic planning at Ford's plant in Almussafes, Spain. "I am optimistic that Vitria:BusinessWare is the solution that will help us to solve our challenges and optimize the flow of information between us and our suppliers."

"Ford Spain's V-Chain project with DMR Consulting is representative of Vitria's continued strategy of developing vertical solutions for the manufacturing industry," said Guy Bouchon, managing director, Vitria Spain and Portugal. "The Vitria:BusinessWare implementation provides the foundation for business process management to support Ford's mission-critical system with high availability and scalability requirements and the capacity to integrate hundreds of new suppliers."

About Ford Spain

Ford Spain was set up in 1976, as a result of Henry Ford II's resolution to manufacture a small-sized car in Europe in a completely new plant. Since then, Ford Spain, and specifically the plant located in Almussafes, has grown and achieved quality and productivity levels that make it hold a leading position among European manufacturing plants.

2002 was a year of big challenges and motivations for the Valencia-based plant. To the decision to reintroduce the making of the Ford Fiesta, add the establishment of the third vehicle production shift, the opening of a new Duratech engines plant and being the first plant to manufacture a Mazda model in Europe. This model joins the three that are currently assembled in Almussafes, granting the plant the "flex" category. Ford Motor Company celebrated its 100th anniversary during 2003.
