Now Mini can go on an Adventure Without Getting Lost

CRANFIELD, BEDFORDSHIRE, England, March 4 -- MINI, part of the BMW Group, has signed a deal with Trafficmaster to offer Smartnav as an approved accessory on all new MINI cars. The contract means that customers can purchase Smartnav and have it installed on their MINIs at 150 approved MINI dealerships.

Smartnav, the latest in satellite navigation, uses Trafficmaster's sophisticated traffic information to calculate the optimum route. Smartnav continuously monitors routes to alert drivers of changing traffic conditions and, where possible divert them around delays. Smartnav is operated through one button on the dashboard, which connects the driver to a real operator, who then puts the destination into a powerful central computer. Within seconds the 'best' route is sent to the car and the driver is given turn-by-turn directions throughout the journey.

MINI will also be offering its customers Smartnav's two optional services; Safe Speed, a safety camera alert that warns drivers, via a series of beeps, as they approach zones monitored by fixed and variable speed cameras and will continuously beep if they travelling above the speed limit in that zone; and a leading GPS stolen vehicle location service.

Smartnav is priced at GBP579 including VAT, connection and a 36-month warranty. Installation will be charged by the dealer according to individual labour rates. A year's subscription to the service costs GBP120. Safe Speed can be added for just GBP6 a month whilst the stolen vehicle location service is GBP8 a month.
