Garmin(R) StreetPilot(R) 2620 GPS Navigator Offers Pre-Loaded Maps
OLATHE, Kan., March 2 -- Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. , today announced the debut of the StreetPilot 2620, a plug-and-play portable automotive GPS navigator featuring pre-loaded, detailed maps of North America -- right out of the box.
The StreetPilot 2620 includes a pre-programmed hard drive that stores detailed maps of the entire United States and metropolitan areas of Canada. Motorists can navigate to a specific address or to an industry-leading database of more than 5 million points of interest -- including lodging, restaurants, gas stations, and local attractions. The intuitive, menu-driven touchscreen ensures that navigating the unit is as easy as navigating the road.
"Garmin is known as the innovator in portable GPS automobile navigation systems, and that's reflected in the StreetPilot's road-tested and user- friendly operation," said Gary Kelley, Garmin's director of marketing. "Our new StreetPilot 2620 takes that a step further, by providing pre-loaded, detailed map information for virtually unlimited access to any destination across the country. Simply take it out of the box, plug it in, and you're on your way."
Like its predecessor -- the StreetPilot 2610 -- the new unit features a high-resolution 256-color touchscreen with voice prompted turn-by-turn navigation and a powerful microprocessor for fast route calculation and map redraw. The system includes a unique wireless infrared remote control, which allows easy operation of the unit from a distance. The StreetPilot 2620 also offers WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) enabled support, to ensure the highest degree of GPS accuracy.
The StreetPilot 2620 offers a number of new and exclusive software upgrades, including:
-- Multiple Destinations - Want to find the most efficient route for deliveries or sales calls? Users can enter a series of destinations and the StreetPilot 2620 will automatically sort them to provide an efficient route. -- Road Segment and Area Avoidance - Want to avoid traffic tie-ups or roadwork? Users can specify areas and road segments to avoid when calculating routes. -- Find Nearest on Route - Are you running on empty? A time-saving feature allows users to limit searches for gas stations, restaurants, etc. to upcoming points near a route. -- Adjustable Road Class Preference - Users can adjust preferences for major, medium, and minor road categories.
The StreetPilot 2620 is expected to be available in March 2004 at a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1399.99. The unit ships standard with preloaded MapSource(R) North American City Navigator(R) maps, an infrared alphanumeric remote control, AC adapter, PC/USB cable, external speaker with 12-volt adapter cable, dash and friction mounts, owner's manual, and quick reference guide.
