Tom Kowaleski General Motors VP of Global Communications to Speak at Detroit PRSA Event

DETROIT, March 1 -- Tom Kowaleski, the recently appointed vice president of General Motors' (GM) global communications, will share his view of strategic communications at the March 9, 2004 meeting of the Detroit chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). Kowaleski, 51, brings 24 years of automotive communications experience, having worked in the United States and Europe with GM, DaimlerChrysler, American Motors and Renault.
"Communications: Relevance not awareness is the goal" is the theme of Kowaleski's speech to the 500-plus member organization.
Kowaleski joined GM as executive director of product communications in March 1999 and was named a regional vice president in 2002. As vice president of global communications, Kowaleski is a member of GM's Automotive Strategy Board and leads the global Communications Strategy Board. He directs all of GM's corporate, product, brand and internal communications efforts around the world.
Before joining GM, Kowaleski served as director of communications strategy for DaimlerChrysler and vice president of marketing and communications for Chrysler Europe. He previously held senior communications positions at Campbell and Co., American Motors and Renault. Kowaleski earned a bachelor of science degree in communications from Ohio University.
