David Stremme to Make His First Start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 1, 2004) – David Stremme has never driven in a race
at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This weekend’s Sam’s Town 300 NASCAR Busch
Series Race will be his first event at the 1.5-mile tri-oval. While the odds of a
first-time driver finishing well are not all that high, TRIMSPA driver David
Stremme has continually proven that he can rise to the challenge of racing up
front at a new track.
“I went to the Las Vegas race last year when I was teammates with
Jamie (McMurray), but it was just to watch him race,” said Stremme, driver of
the X32 TRIMSPA Dodge. “I had not even made my first Busch start at that
point. The only experience I have driving at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is on NASCAR
2003 on my computer. Jamie tested with Braun Racing at Vegas before the
season so we should come to the track with a good setup and a strong car.”
Stremme has always out-driven expectations when he first competes
at a new track. Just three weeks ago the South Bend, Indiana native placed
sixth at Daytona International Speedway in his first race there. His finish was
the highest of any driver who does not compete fulltime in the Nextel Cup
Series.
In his Busch career, consisting of 15 first starts at NASCAR
tracks, Stremme has finished inside the top 10 at five of those races, including a
third-place finish in his first visit to the Milwaukee Mile.
“I am confident that Braun Racing and the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge will
run well at Las Vegas,” said Stremme. “I know we have great equipment. The
body placements and overall balance of our cars really shows at the intermediate
tracks. Casey (Mears) got the pole for Braun at the Busch race in Chicago
last year, which shows how strong we can be at a similar track to Vegas.”
This weekend Stremme will have to learn the Las Vegas Motor Speedway without
the help of Braun Racing teammate, and fulltime Nextel Cup driver, Jamie
McMurray. McMurray, who drove to victory in a second TRIMSPA sponsored Braun Racing
Dodge at North Carolina Speedway last weekend, had to scratch plans to run at
Las Vegas Motor Speedway when sponsorship could not been found for his No. 30
Braun Racing Dodge.
“We can take what Jamie learned in testing and translate it to my X32 TRIMSPA
Dodge,” said Stremme. “But I would rather have him there as a teammate at
the track. It’s a shame when a winning team can’t compete because of
sponsorship.”
Stremme and the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge team will hit the track Saturday, March 6,
at 3:30 p.m. at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the third race of the 34-race
Busch Series schedule. The Sam’s Town 300 will be telecast live on FX and
broadcast worldwide on PRN radio.
