AASCO Motorsports Wins Grand Prix of Miami SGS Class
AASCO Motorsports Wins Grand Prix of Miami SGS Class
HOMESTEAD, Fla., February 28, 2004 - Legendary racer Dennis Aase's AASCO
Motorsports won their first Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series race
of 2004 today at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS). The Anaheim,
California-based Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entry of Craig Stanton (Long Beach,
Calif.) and David Murry (Cumming, Ga.) fought their way from the back of
the starting grid to take the SGS class victory with a combination of
strong driving, superb pit work and excellent race strategy. Stanton and
Murry, who were awarded the SGS class SunTrust Most Improved Position
Award for the second time of the two-race old season, finished 15th
overall in the 42 car field. Murry started the 2004 Porsche, and made
his way into the lead of the class before handing driving duties over to
Stanton at the race's first full course caution- just over one hour into
the event. Stanton fought an understeering race car to take the
checkered flag ahead of the No. 36 of TPC Racing. The Grand Prix of
Miami will be broadcast on PEE Channel at 4 pm on March 7.
Dennis Aase: "I have to give the credit to our 'steering technicians'
(drivers). They were putting in qualifying laps every lap out there
today. We had Thomas Blam working our pit strategy and he was able to
take every yellow (flag) and work it to our favor. That really helped us
take the step up on the last lap we got on then (No.) 36."
David Murry: "My goal was to run as hard as I could without making any
mistakes and keep the car fresh for Craig. Craig had all the hard work.
He had guys chasing him. The crew has worked solid for three months on
these Porsches and they have done a great job. We definitely earned this
one today!"
Craig Stanton: "The AASCO guys did an awesome job in the pits. We had
Thomas (Blam) calling the race strategy for us and he did an amazing
job. He got us up a lap at the end and that let us have a little
breather because the car was starting to push pretty bad from the middle
of the race on. We got beaten on a few times out there but this Porsche
really held together and brought us home. I'm just so happy for the
whole team. They have put so much effort into this win. I'm so proud of
them and so happy for them. Dennis and the whole crew really won this
one today. It's a great payoff for all their hard work."
