KANAAN QUALIFIES EIGHTH FOR TOMORROW'S SEASON OPENER IN HOMESTEAD

        HOMESTEAD, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2004) - Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan turned a
qualifying lap of 215.976 miles per hour today and will start from the eighth position in Sunday's
Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series opener at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
        The Brazilian native and Miami resident is looking to improve on the fourth-place finish
he recorded at his "home track" in 2003, which stands as his best Homestead finish ever in four
career open-wheel starts.
        Kanaan's three other Andretti Green Racing teammates will be scattered among
tomorrow's starting lineup. Dario Franchitti qualified in the fourth position, Bryan Herta is set to
roll off from the fifth position and Dan Wheldon will start 14th.
        Buddy Rice, who is filling in for the injured Kenny Brack, won the pole in a Team Rahal
entry.
        The green flag for tomorrow's event is set to fly just after 2 p.m. (EST). The 300-mile
season opener on the newly-reconfigured Homestead oval will be televised live on ESPN.


Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
        "We made a mistake in our qualifying run. I should have run fifth gear, but we thought
that sixth gear would be quicker.  I would like to be starting better, but I'm not worried about the
race tomorrow. We'll be in good shape."


Kim Green, President, Andretti Green Racing:
        "It is disappointing for us.  The car was better than that this morning and we may have
made a bad choice on the gearing, but we also picked up some understeer.  Those are things
you just can't afford in qualifying.  I think we have a good race car and that is what is important.
For sure, we would have liked to get the pole position like we did last year, but maybe with our
race setup we'll be in good shape tomorrow."
