(February 27, 2004) -- To kick off the 37th season of competition, the ASA National Tour visits USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla., for the SK Hand Tool 200 on Saturday, March 27. Three-time champion Butch Miller won at USA International Speedway in March of 2003 after completing a pass on eventual series champion Kevin Cywinski on lap 193 and then powering to the winner's circle. With eight laps remaining in the 200-lap event, eventual Rookie of the Year Reed Sorenson made slight contact with race leader Cywinski, allowing Miller to drive his No. 52 Timber Wolf car to the outside lane and advance from third to first. At the checkered flag, Cywinski flashed across the stripe 0.525 seconds behind the race winner. Sorenson crossed the line third with Florida racers Scott Lagasse Jr. and Travis Kittleson rounding out the top-five finishers. Seven-time ASA National Champion Mike Eddy captured ASA's initial victory at USA International Speedway in 1996. The Florida oval has hosted five events with two-time champion Gary St. Amant winning in 2000, Mike Garvey collecting top honors the following year and 2002 titlist Joey Clanton earning the winning hardware in 2002. Miller scored a thrilling victory in March of 2003. Billing itself the largest and most modern special events short track in the southeastern United States," USA International Speedway encompasses a number of special events for a variety of touring series, as well as weekly racing shows. The track is often referred to as paperclip-like, with two long straight-a-ways and tight turns. MUSCO TV lighting, aluminum grandstand seating, plenty of free and convenient parking and free camping for self contained RVs are just some of the amenities greeting fans. ASA returns to USA International Speedway for SK Hand Tool 200 on Saturday, March 27, with the first of two practice sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pole qualifying is set for 2 p.m. with the fan autograph session scheduled for 5.
