DuPont Automotive SAE World Congress Activity
DuPont Automotive invites you to "Choose Your own Briefing" during the 2004 SAE World Congress and Exposition in Detroit, March 8-11. Please review the following options and share your choices with Carrie LeMieux at Eisbrenner Public Relations - 248.641.1446
DuPont Composite Recycle Technology spans the Pacific - Introduced two years ago, this development technology has been proven technically and environmentally viable - and last week won the 2004 New Materials and Processes Award from the Environmental Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers with development partner DENSO Corp. The closed-loop nylon recycling process can convert parts made of glass- or mineral-filled nylon 6 or 66 into essentially first-use quality material. Ken Stevens, DuPont Canada technology group leader, is available to talk about the technology and a new development partner.
A boat engine at SAE? Mercury Marine unveils its Verado Engine - Launched at the Miami Boat Show just two weeks ago, this new category of four-stroke, vertically integrated in-line six outboard engine shows the power of technology transfer. Designed and engineered by Mercury's top engine team (formerly from Porsche and General Motors), this break-though engine delivers 275 horsepower - it runs so quietly you can have a normal conversation with fellow boaters while the engine runs at full throttle. Mercury Marine engine designers are available to talk about how they turned engine development on its ear with the aid of many of the automotive supply chain. Interested in the design and use of plastics in unprecedented applications? Both Mercury and DuPont designers are on hand to talk about new applications.
Detroit Rockers - North America's first high-volume thermoplastic rocker cover debuted on the 2004 Chrysler Town & Country. Our powertrain experts are on hand to talk about the potential penetration rate and what new integration opportunities are available for rocker covers; the next "hot" under-hood application; and materials to help develop new cost and weight saving components.
Fusion of Art and Science - DuPont brings together dozens of intriguing materials, technology and color to marry interior and exterior design. Inquire about new materials, including DuPont(TM) Shine-E Rynite(R), a Class-A paintable product that can withstand high e-coat temperatures so plastic panels no longer have to be painted off-line. Also new: Decorating Solutions - plastics that are low gloss, paintable, platable, printable ...
Implications of Future Fuels - From materials that can withstand alternative fuels, to materials, technology and ideas to help automakers cost- effectively meet CARB evaporative emission regulations, DuPont materials and technology is on the forefront of innovation. Two new material families - one to dissipate static and one to withstand hot diesel - debut at SAE and the ITB Fuel Seminar.
Better Safe than Sorry - What's behind the surge in automotive safety, as seen in the DuPont sponsored survey of SAE attendees? Our first tier customers are integrating their approaches, OEMs are selling five-star safety and the industry is racing to meet voluntary and regulatory standards that are coalescing worldwide. Recent advances in laminated safety glass will offer other advantages beyond safety and security for added sound, solar and other "smart" advances. As options go standard, such as side curtain airbag systems, there's a rush to lower their cost and increase their performance. Then there's the issue of new approaches and materials to offer collision avoidance features as well as for active and passive systems that will better protect vehicle occupants in frontal and side impacts or rollovers. The EU Pedestrian Protection Directive in Europe will require new energy management technologies with new materials in new forms.
