State Officials and Professional Truck Drivers Demonstrate Safety Measures for Arizona Drivers

Mack Truck's Program Visits Phoenix to Save Lives on Arizona Highways

Thousands of Vehicles Travel I-10 Through Phoenix Each Day. Most
Automobile Drivers Were Never Taught What They Can Do to Avoid
Initiating an Accident With a Tractor-Trailer.

Who: Arizona State Representative Gary Pierce, professional truck
drivers, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Governor's
Office of Highway Safety, Arizona Department of Public Safety,
Phoenix Police Department, the American Trucking Associations
(ATA), and the Arizona Trucking Association.

What: A demonstration of highway safety measures will be conducted for
local news media, including "ride-alongs" in tractor-trailers,
as part of the national Share the Road tour visiting Phoenix,
            AZ.

When: Thursday, February 26th, 10:00 AM

Where: Wesley Bolin Plaza, 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix, AZ

Summary: Arizona officials and professional truck drivers with millions
of miles of accident-free driving will demonstrate safety
measures critical to saving lives on Arizona highways. The
demonstration will include truck ride-alongs for news reporters
and photographers. Safety demonstration will include tips on
blind spots, safe-merging techniques, and stopping and following
            distances.

The safety advice is critical for Arizona drivers because:
            * 35% of all truck-involved highway fatalities occur in a
truck's blind spots (Federal Motor Carrier Safety
              Administration)
            * Most drivers were never taught how to share the road safely
              with trucks
            * Watching this demonstration will help reduce accidents
