Persistent Rain in Pomona Forces Winternationals Postponement

Event: 44th annual Winternationals
Location: Pomona Raceway
       Pomona, California
Day/Date: Saturday February 21, 2004

Heavy rain continued to plague the Los Angeles area on Saturday, with additional storms forecast for Sunday. Therefore, NHRA officials were forced to postpone the season-opening Winternationals in Pomona, CA. Racing will resume next weekend, the schedule picking up with a single qualifying session next Friday.

With teams facing an unplanned return to Pomona Raceway in a few days, plans were quickly made to take advantage of the added time on the road. For Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts Racing team, this meant headed to another racetrack to test and fine-tune their Pro Stock Grand Am.

"There's nothing anyone can do about the weather, so there is no reason to get upset. Our top priority, as always, is to put on a good show for the fans, which we certainly couldn't do under these conditions.

"Our focus has now shifted to making the most of the next few days. We'd certainly like to go somewhere and test, and the weather continues to be the determining factor. Although this storm is headed to Phoenix and Las Vegas, we should be able to get at least one day in somewhere. Rest assured, the GM Performance Parts team will spend the time productively."
