Launch of a new version of the Peugeot 307 in China
Actively pursuing its policy of developing the range, Peugeot unveils a ‘booted’ saloon version of the 307. This new model, the sixth in the 307 family, will receive its world première at the forthcoming Geneva Car Show. A 4-door saloon complete with a generous boot, it will be produced at the Wuhan plant in the Hubei province of central China, and sold in that country in the summer of 2004 simply as the “307”.
Like other members of the 307 family, this model follows the blueprint for the 307 programme, which offers a new interpretation of each of the different silhouettes. Produced at the time of its launch in 3- and 5-door hatchback versions, the 307 offered an innovative response to the expectations of 21st century customers: space and brightness in the passenger compartment, an advanced equipment specification and a high level of active and passive safety. With almost 1.5 million units produced at the Sochaux and Mulhouse sites, the 307, in its 5-door version, will also be produced at the Buenos Aires site in Argentina from next spring.
A 307 in the tradition of… the 307 With this 307 saloon, Peugeot meets a majority demand in the Chinese car market by offering a vehicle which, in terms of comfort, safety and driveability, is already a benchmark in Europe.
Its length of 4.46 m is generous with a remarkable capacity, while its boot stands out as the most spacious in its category. The style of this new 307 is particularly uniform, fluid and dynamic. Following the principle pioneered by the 307, this new version offers a choice - hitherto unavailable in China - of five interior trims, to satisfy the requirements for personalisation of a particularly demanding customer base.
This 307 saloon has three badging levels and two petrol engines: 1.6 litre with a power of 80 kW (approximately 110 bhp) and 2.0 litre with a power of 100 kW (approximately 138 bhp), each of which is available with a manual or automatic gearbox.
The sales target of this new 307 for the year 2004 is 15,000 units, rising to 50,000 units from 2005.
