CinemaNow Partners With Akimbo to Bring Video-On-Demand Service Directly To Television
MARINA DEL REY, Calif.--Feb. 1, 20046, 2004--CinemaNow Inc., a leader in IP-based video-on-demand distribution and technology, today announced it has partnered with Akimbo to make its vast library of video-on-demand content available for viewing on televisions. Akimbo, a new company launched earlier today at DEMO 2004, brings a broadband-delivered programming service to television, giving consumers new channels for high-quality movies, films, music and other video on-demand. Per the agreement, Akimbo will work directly with CinemaNow to co-market the Akimbo Service to existing CinemaNow customers."Allowing consumers to download and watch Internet-delivered content on their televisions is the next great frontier in digital distribution," said Bruce Eisen, executive vice president of CinemaNow. The CinemaNow film library contains more than 4,200 feature length films, shorts, music concerts and television programs from more than 150 licensors. CinemaNow content is made available in Microsoft's Windows Media Video 9 Series format and is protected by Microsoft's Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) software in conjunction with CinemaNow's PatchBay(TM) technology. Akimbo and CinemaNow will integrate their respective services to take advantage of CinemaNow's PatchBay infrastructure and DRM licensing engine.
