Gerhart Wins Pole PlusOfficial Starting Grid, Advance Discount Auto Parts 200

 

DAYTONA BEACH FL (2-5-04)  After an hour rain delay, ARCA RE/MAX Series veteran 

Bobby Gerhart was more than ready to go.....fast. Gerhart, in the Lucas Oil 

Chevrolet, bumped Kyle Busch off the top spot in the final moments of qualifying Thursday at 

Daytona Int'l Speedway to win the Pork Pole Award for the Advance Discount Auto Parts 200 

with a speed of 184.309 mph. It was Gerhart's second consecutive pole at Daytona and 6th of his career.

"We've got a good race package here," Gerhart said. "We seem to consistently be able to produce cars
I like. 

That's the key here. You've got to handle. This exercise of going fast for one lap gets put behind us. 

Now you've got to race and you've got to handle. You've got to concentrate on what's going to produce a victory 

for us on Saturday."

Rounding out the front row was Kyle Busch, who turned a lap of 183.647 mph in the No. 87 Ditech.com Chevrolet.

"I wish it would have stuck," Busch said. Busch, who is competing for Rookie of the Year honors in the NASCAR 

Busch Series driving for Hendrick Motorsports, is using the Advance Discount Auto Parts 200 as a tune-up for 

next weekend's Hershey's Kisses 300 Busch Series race.



"It would definitely be awesome to win (Advance Discount Auto Parts 200)," Busch said. "Hendrick Motorsports 

and Ditech have given me the opportunity to be here. There's no other situation than to try to win the race.



On the other hand, that's one of the main reasons we're here is to gain that experience for next week. 

The Busch Series championship is what we' re going after for this next year and Rookie of the Year. 

We're going to get whatever we get as far as races go for the rest of the season."

Rounding out the top five was Paul Menard (183.340), Frank Kimmel (183.284) and Clint Bowyer (183.083).



The 41st annual Advance Discount Auto Parts 200 at Daytona Int'l Speedway is live on PEE Channel at 

4 PM Eastern Saturday, February 7.
