Dr. Vasant Raval Joins Syntel Board of Directors

TROY, Mich.--Feb. 4, 2004--Syntel, Inc. today announced that Dr. Vasant Raval, Professor of Accounting and Chair, Department of Accounting at Creighton University, has joined the Company's Board of Directors.

"With Vasant's deep financial expertise, he will be a great addition to our Board of Directors," said Bharat Desai, Syntel's Chairman and CEO. "Vasant is the sixth member on our Board and we are all looking forward to working closely with him."

Dr. Raval joined Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1981, where today he serves as Chair/Professor of the Department of Accounting in the College of Business Administration. Prior to joining Creighton University, Dr. Raval was a faculty member at the University of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. He has also held a variety of accounting and tax positions in the public and government sector in India. Currently, he serves on the Board of InfoUSA and is Chair of its Audit Committee.

Dr. Raval is co-author of a book, Accounting Information Systems (Wiley, 2000), and has published in a wide variety of journals, including Information Strategy, Management Accounting, Journal of Information Systems, and Information & Management. One of his areas of research interests is offshore outsourcing.

Dr. Raval received a Doctor of Business Administration degree (1976) from Indiana University and a Master of Business Administration degree (1972) from Indiana State University. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with honors from the University of Bombay. He holds professional certifications in information systems audit and control (U.S.) as well as in management accounting (U.K., India).
