Chrysler Group Reports U.S. Sales for January 2004 Increased Nine Percent

* January Marks Fourth Consecutive Month of Gains * Dodge Durango Year-Over-Year Sales Improve 38 Percent * Jeep(R) Brand Sales Surge 28 Percent over January 2003 * Jeep Liberty, Dodge Neon Set January Sales Records * Uptick in PT Cruiser Sales Helps Chrysler Brand Sales Grow 14 Percent

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 3 -- Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 147,001 units in January 2004, an increase of nine percent over January 2003 when 129,222 units were sold. January represents the fourth consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. Sales are calculated on a day-rate basis.

"These continued year-over-year sales increases show a strong level of consistency for the Chrysler Group," said Gary Dilts, Chrysler Group Senior Vice President - Sales. "These solid results are due to an improving economy and great new products like our Dodge Durango. Exciting, new, ready-to-launch products like the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum will help us maintain our marketplace momentum."

The all-new Dodge Durango led Dodge brand sales in January and continued its strong launch performance by posting sales of 8,888 units. This represents a 38 percent gain compared to January 2003 when 6,209 units were sold.

"The Dodge Durango has re-established itself as one of the best SUVs in the marketplace," said Dilts. "We've said no other large SUV offers the combination of ride, fuel efficiency and value that the Dodge Durango offers. The recent Motor Trend comparison test that ranked Durango first over the three top-selling large SUVs and a new entry from Japan proves it."

Dodge Ram pickup posted sales of 28,021 units, a one percent increase compared to January 2003 sales of 26,752.

Other highlights for the Dodge brand include a record-setting January for the Dodge Neon with 10,758 units sold, a four percent increase compared to January 2003. Dodge Grand Caravan sales were up 47 percent, to 17,532 units, compared with January 2003 sales of 11,431 units.

"The Jeep(R) brand showed significant strength across all product lines," said Dilts. Sales increased 28 percent compared to January 2003. Jeep Grand Cherokee led the way for the brand by posting sales of 15,184 units, 39 percent higher compared to January 2003 when 10,516 units were sold. Jeep Liberty set an all-time record in January, selling 12,701 units, a 15 percent improvement over January 2003 sales of 10,613 units. Jeep Wrangler also had a strong January, increasing sales 35 percent to 5,391 units compared to 3,836 units sold in January 2003.

Sales of Chrysler brand units were up 14 percent in January 2004, selling 33,936 units compared to January 2003 sales of 28,598. Chrysler PT Cruiser sales increased seven percent to 10,506 units. In January 2003, 9,443 PT Cruisers were sold.

"The industry displayed resiliency during January with slightly higher sales. Despite poor weather conditions in many parts of the country, customers visited showrooms nationwide and our sales reflect that," said Dilts. "Economic indicators are pointing up, the economy and the financial markets are gaining momentum and we've got new, distinctive products in the market with the most we've ever had on the way."

Chrysler Group finished the month with 506,719 units of inventory, or a 90-day supply.
