Orbit Racing - Daytona 6h

smooth start

Orbit Racing led the GT class for most of the first six hours of the Rolex 24 
at Daytona.  Mike Fitzgerald started the No. 44 Classic Industries Porsche 
911 GT3 RS from 12th on the GT grid, but moved to the lead 70 minutes after the 
race start.  Robin Liddell took the second shift at 1h30, followed by Johnny 
Mowlem at 2h15.  The team switched to rain tires at the start of Mowlem's 
double stint.  Fitzgerald took the wheel at 4h34.

At 6h, Orbit Racing was leading the class by two laps, both gained by smart 
pit strategy.

Robin Liddell

"It started raining when I was out there on slicks.  The car initially felt 
very good in the dry; the car was much better than it had been yesterday.  That 
was comforting after the problems we had yesterday.  I was able to settle 
down into a rhythm and not take too many risks in traffic, because it was a bit 
manic in the first few hours.  The stints aren't very long, but I just try to 
be consistent in my driving, not work the car too hard and make sure my lap 
times are consistent."


Johnny Mowlem

"It was very, very slippery out there, especially off-line, so it was quite 
difficult keeping out of trouble.  Also, the windshield was getting very wet on 
the inside with water coming in, so visibility through the left was really, 
really tough.  Following other cars, the visibility was the biggest issue.  The 
car itself is turning like clockwork.  If we keep going like this, we should 
be alright."
