Ward's Reports Estimated North American Vehicle Production January 30, 2004

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 30, 2004 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 339,878 units, up 15.0 percent from the 295,481 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 1,284,500 vehicles, down 10.9 percent from like-2003's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 256,368 vehicles this week, up 22.7 percent from the 208,887 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2004 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 946,990 units, down 11.2 percent from the 1,066,128 vehicles built in like-2003.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 55,593, a decrease of 0.7 percent from the 55,970 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar- 2004 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 213,988 units, down 2.3 percent compared to the 219,066 vehicles produced in like-2003.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 30.3 percent; Ford Motor Co., 26.8 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 16.2 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.6 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.4 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 5.2 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.1 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.7 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.3 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0 percent; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.6 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.8 percent.
