The competitively priced 3.0-litre model is now almost $2,000 less than an equivalent base BMW 330i, which doesn't include an automatic transmission.
"The 2004 X-TYPE is positioned aggressively against our competition and now offers even more value to the consumer," said Vic Bernardini, president of Aston Martin Jaguar Land Rover Canada. "This is one of the most significant cars Jaguar has ever built and we're confident the 2004 model will appeal to a wide variety of the car-buying public."
Jaguar offers two X-TYPE models in Canada, both fitted as standard with Jaguar's Traction-4 all-wheel drive system. The X-TYPE 2.5-litre, priced at $41,195 is equipped with a 192-horsepower AJ-V6 engine and features a standard five-speed manual transmission, with a five-speed electronic automatic available as an option. The X-TYPE 3.0-litre, equipped with a 227-horsepower AJ-V6 engine, comes with the automatic transmission as standard and the manual as a no-cost option.
All X-TYPE models are fitted with standard anti-lock brakes (ABS), three-point safety belts throughout - the fronts with pre-tensioners and load-limiters, dual-stage deployment front airbags, front-seat side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags for the front and rear occupants and a collapsible brake pedal mechanism.
Standard equipment also includes new Sapele wood trim on fascia, centre console and all four doors and leather seats. Both X-TYPE models also include automatic climate control, one-touch open/close power windows, a 140-watt audio system and remote keyless-entry. Also standard is cruise control and Integrated Communications and Entertainment (ICE) controls for the audio and optional telephone.
The X-TYPE is one of the most significant models in the company's history, giving Jaguar its first compact sport sedan in 30 years and driving the transformation of the automaker from a niche player to a major competitor in the luxury car segment. The new model will make a Jaguar available for many car buyers for the first time.
X-TYPE is Jaguar's first all-wheel drive model, and is poised to challenge the segment's existing sales and image leaders.
