Jennifer M. Granholm's January 27, 2004 State of the State Address

DETROIT, Jan. 27, 2004 -- Tonight, in her state of the state address, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm demonstrated her clear understanding of the serious economic and competitive issues facing manufacturing in the State of Michigan.

We must pursue trade policies that level the playing field for American manufacturing in order to compete in the global marketplace; our regulatory processes must be reformed; health care cost and energy policy must be addressed for accessibility and affordability; and we must have a tax structure that will encourage manufacturing capital investments and promote research and development and employment.

Manufacturing is the bedrock upon which the greatness of this country was built. It has provided Michigan's hard-working and intelligent citizens with a way of life that their forefathers only dreamed of, and it is imperative that we attract and retain manufacturing and entrepreneurs to and within the State.

We applaud and support Governor Granholm's initiatives to help keep manufacturing alive and growing in Michigan.
