Enterprise Rent-A-Car Selects Sprint to Help Drive Network Redesign
More Than 200 Locations Already Switched
OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Jan. 22 -- Enterprise Rent-A-Car has turned to Sprint as it gears up to transition more than 2,000 locations from an existing satellite-based network to a new frame-relay data network. A 5-year, multimillion-dollar agreement between the companies has set the stage for a significant network overhaul at the largest car rental company in North America.

Already, more than 200 sites have been switched to a network from Sprint that combines reliable frame relay services and flexible, high-speed Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) technology to deliver a robust, secure and reliable data network. Enterprise Rent-A-Car expects to transition its entire network away from its existing satellite-based service in the next 12 to 24 months.
"At Enterprise, our drive is to maintain a strong reputation for bringing our customers superior service," said Mike Preuss, assistant vice president, Enterprise Rent-A-Car. "We have included Sprint in our network transition because it offered the right combination of people, technology and competitive pricing as we undergo this important initiative.
Added Mark Bowser, president, Sprint Enterprise Markets: "A project of this magnitude calls for experience, flexible and reliable new technologies and effective transition plans. Enterprise has challenged Sprint during the preliminary implementation phase to smoothly transition services without interruption. Changing network design is challenging, but Enterprise has earned its reputation for technological excellence because it understands the ways technology -- and companies like Sprint -- can help its business."
