Armstrong Foundation
FOUNDATION SUPPORTS SOUTH DADE FAMILIES
For several years, Armstrong Ford and Toyota, working with the Homestead
Police, put together a Christmas party, with Santa, food and gifts for
needy area children. And each year, the party grew and grew…
In 2002, David Rich and Victor Farinas decided to "get serious" about their
community support activities. That year, Armstrong Ford and Toyota donated
$20,000 to help 20 families. Two other companies kicked-in an additional
$5,000 (see Time Magazine article)
In 2003, Rich and Farinas wanted to do even more… and the Armstrong Toyota
& Ford Family Foundation was born. The Foundation publicly offered to match
donations.
Cliff Patterson, Community Service Officer, coordinated the Homestead
Police fundraising and transportation efforts. Anael Hernandez, Manager of
the Homestead Sedanos Supermarket, created a contest to see which check-out
clerk could solicit the most support. Mirabel Hernandez (no relation) won.
Ivette Murga, Community Activities Leader at Wesley Matthews Elementary,
challenged her students to give back to the community… The kids made Ivette
proud with their generosity. Of course, the Armstrong family of employees
kicked-in their support. Last week, the Foundation touched the lives of
hundreds…
· Friday, December 19, 30 families received gifts ranging from $500 cash to
an electric wheelchair and a car. Lunch was served at the Radio Paz studios
where Father Alberto and Barbara Guerra made everyone feel at home. Victor
Farinas handed out the Foundation's gifts.
· Saturday, December 20, more than 200 children received presents at the
annual Christmas Party, held at Armstrong Ford of Homestead, with an
appearance by Santa Claus himself. The Christmas party included meals
donated by area merchants and served by the Homestead Police. Entertainment
included Sparkles the Clown and magic by Fritzner Paul.
· The Foundation work continues as more than 50 families receive surprise
holiday meal gift certificates in their mailbox.
· The Foundation kicks off 2004 fundraising with "The Family Skate Jam"
December 25th at Super Wheels.
