Lear Seat Quality Improves for Fourth Consecutive Year In J.D. Power and Associates 2003 Seat Quality Report(SM)

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 21, 2004 -- For the fourth straight year, Lear Corporation showed improvement in automotive seat quality based on the J.D. Power and Associates 2003 Seat Quality Report(SM), an analysis of consumer experiences with the quality, design and features of automotive seats.

Lear is the largest global manufacturer of automotive seat systems and a supplier to all the world's major automakers. Lear registered an 11% improvement in the area of "things gone wrong" over last year's results, exceeding the industry average with seven problems per 100 vehicles compared with 7.9 in 2002.

"We are pleased to show improvement again in the latest study," said Bob Rossiter, Lear's chairman and chief executive officer.

Rossiter continued, "The cornerstone of our strategy is to deliver superior customer satisfaction by continuously improving our quality. The Lear team puts in countless hours of research, design and testing in order to create the best products possible and it is rewarding to see these efforts reflected in our internal surveys as well as the annual J.D. Power and Associates Seat Quality Report."

Based on 102,975 responses from owners of new 2003 and early-release 2004 model-year cars and light trucks sold in the United States, the 2003 Seat Quality Report provides seat and seat belt manufacturers with information related to the seating systems during the initial part of the ownership cycle. The study provides product quality and design satisfaction information and examines the drivers of consumer satisfaction with vehicle seating systems.
