Orbit and BAM! to Le Mans
Orbit Racing and BAM! (British American Motorsport) will join forces for the
2004 24 Heures du Mans, reuniting the group that finished a strong second in
the GT class last year. In 2003, the second-place YES Network Porsche 911 GT3
RS was driven by Leo Hindery of New York, Peter Baron of Deerfield Beach, Fla.
and Marc Lieb of Germany, under the direction of Orbit team owner Rodger
Hawley and technical director Tim Munday.
The group received an automatic invitation to this year's prestigious
endurance race because of the 2003 podium finish. Hindery will be the primary driver
of the new YES Network Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, with Baron and a third driver to
be announced at a later date. Hawley and Munday will continue in their roles
as team owner and technical director, respectively.
Orbit/BAM! will participate in the 24 Heures du Mans test on the 13.65-km
course in Le Mans, France on April 25. The team will return for the 24-hour race
on June 12 and 13.
"Racing at Le Mans is an enormous honor, what more should and can one say?"
Hindery said. "It will be a great privilege for all of us to be at our sport's
greatest race for the third time."
Hawley noted the Le Mans experience goes beyond the track: "Le Mans is so
much more than the race. It's a chance to go back and enjoy the people we met
there, the food and the culture of the region. It's almost like a motor-racing
vacation because it's so different."
Orbit Racing and BAM! are based in south Florida - Orbit in Jupiter and BAM!
in Stuart. The race shops are about 80 miles north of Miami.
