Lear Receives Informal SEC Inquiry
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Jan. 20, 2004 -- Lear Corporation today announced that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has commenced an informal inquiry into the Company's September 2002 amendment of its 2001 Form 10-K. The amendment was filed to report Lear's employment of relatives of certain of its directors and officers and certain related-party transactions.

In connection with the informal inquiry, the Company has received a request from the SEC to voluntarily produce documents and other relevant information concerning these matters. The SEC has advised the Company that the inquiry should not be construed as an indication by the Commission or its staff that any violations of law have occurred, or as an adverse reflection upon any person or security. Lear intends to cooperate fully with the inquiry.
