WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 -- DaimlerChrysler will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by participating in several celebratory events across the country -- all dedicated to the Civil Rights leader who dared to dream a world of equality.
On Sunday, January 18, DaimlerChrysler will host the 13th Annual International Salute to the Life and Legacy of Dr. King. The event will be held in Washington, D.C., at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel. Rob Liberatore, Group Senior Vice President - Global External Affairs and Public Policy for DaimlerChrysler, and Frank Fountain, President, DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund, will both participate in the breakfast program.
Liberatore will offer remarks on the international impact and legacy of Dr. King's work. Fountain, along with Dr. Dorothy Height, Chair of the National Council of Negro Women, will present the King Legacy Awards to this year's honorees.
"Martin Luther King Jr. Day is an important time to reflect on what it means to be an American," said Liberatore. "But Dr. King's legacy reaches far beyond the United States. He was, and continues to be, an inspiration and role model for leaders and citizens around the world."
Other Washington, D.C.-based MLK Day celebrations supported by DaimlerChrysler are the Washington Choral Arts Society annual MLK Day Concert at The Kennedy Center; the MLK Jr. Memorial Library Reading celebration; and DC Cares' MLK Day of Service volunteer initiative.
In Michigan, DaimlerChrysler will celebrate MLK Day with the Metropolitan Organizing Strategy Enabling Strength organization (MOSES). The group will host its seventh annual Martin Luther King Banquet on Monday, January 19, in Livonia, Mich. Additionally, the Company will sponsor the American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee (ADC) Scholarship Dinner honoring Dr. King, which will be held on Thursday, January 22, in Dearborn, Mich.
"Corporate citizenship can be expressed in several ways, but the support of moral and philosophical beliefs, such as those shared with the country by Dr. King, are a vital part of the growth of our country," said Fountain.
