Delphi Receives Two Prestigious Information Technology Designations
TROY, Mich., Jan. 15, 2004 -- Delphi's Global Enterprise Application Services team received two significant acknowledgements recently with a successful implementation of the Level 2 Capability Maturity Model (CMM), as defined by the Software Engineering Institute, and a designation as a Certified Competence Center by SAP.

The Global Enterprise Application Services (GEAS) team is part of Delphi's Information Technology organization. The CMM designation demonstrates the team's establishment of disciplined processes that can repeatedly ensure superior quality and performance. The CMM was created in 1994 by the Software Engineering Society -- a research and development center sponsored and funded by the US Department of Defense -- to assist organizations in maturing their people, processes, and technology assets to improve long-term business performance. CMM Level 2 indicates a Disciplined Process characterized by project management processes, managed requirements, and support for repeatable results.
Delphi's case for CMM 2 was particularly strong said Diane McDonald, the lead assessor from Step Up Solutions, who reviewed Delphi for the designation. "In my 16 years of assessing organizations, this is only the second time I have seen an organization complete the assessment without any weaknesses."
GEAS also maintained its status as a Certified Competence Center for another two years with an outstanding performance during a recent review by SAP Corporation. SAP assessors scored the team with a 96 out of 104, well above the 75 needed for recertification. In particular Delphi was acknowledged for excelling in five areas:
* Quality and Test Management * Release and Update Management * Data Management and Archiving * Backup, Disaster Recovery and High Availability Plans * Technology Migration Management
"Competence Center" is a term SAP uses to identify corporate internal development and deployment organizations demonstrating the full range of competencies necessary to successfully support SAP.
"These are very gratifying," said John Reaves, director of Delphi's GEAS team, which includes the Competence Center. "The applications we are deploying are the core of Delphi's future business support environment and these distinctions recognize the professionalism and efforts of the team."
SAP is the largest provider of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in the world with thousands of installations. Delphi was the fourth of only 16 organizations in North America that have been certified by SAP.
