Amicus Seeks Meeting with Nissan - UK
LONDON, January 7 -- Amicus, the trade union that represents car workers at the Nissan car plant in Sunderland, Wearside, are seeking an urgent meeting over remarks made by the Company president Carlos Ghosn on future investment in the factory. The remarks that were made at the Detroit Auto show concern the decision over the future replacement for the Almera model that is currently built in the plant.
In a statement today Amicus North East Regional Officer Mel Barras who is responsible for negotiations in the plant said:
"Sunderland is the most productive car plant in Europe and Amicus will be seeking to clarify on behalf of our members the points Mr Ghosn has made."
There are 4000 workers at Nissan. Amicus membership is over 30% and has been steadily rising each month during this year.
