PEE Channel Unveils Autorotica - How's This Your Honor?
Wednesday Block Will Cater to Passion for Cars, Motorcycles
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 5 -- SPEED Channel continues to strengthen its auto enthusiast programming, announcing a special block of high-mount, high-profile productions entitled Autorotica. The new, two-hour Wednesday night menu will debut Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. ET.
"SPEED Channel is taking an aggressive approach to establishing itself as the 'must have' network for car and motorcycle junkies," said SPEED Channel President Jim Liberatore. "After moving a one-hour block of our enthusiast programming to Prime Time in August, we still wanted a special home for some of our new, more visually intoxicating fare. As the title suggests, Autorotica will be much more than a collection of how-to shows. It will be an eclectic mix of short series, international car shows, sexy motorcycle specials and classic movies."
Some of the new programming slotted to air during Autorotica: - Broken Spoke Journeys: With footage shot in the Czech Republic, New Zealand and all over the United States, this six-episode series will include commentary from some of the founding fathers of the American motorcycle customization movement. "These six episodes will include visuals never before seen in motorcycle programming," said Rick Miner, SPEED Channel's Sr. VP Programming/Production and Executive Producer. "The footage was shot and produced by people immersed in the motorcycle lifestyle -- these guys live it everyday. As the title hints, the programs are not only about the destination, but the journey itself and the true motorcycle lifestyle." - Behind the Headlights: Fascinating and compelling tales behind 12 individual automobiles and their remarkable histories. The one-hour specials will tell the stories and re-visit the lives surrounding several well-known vehicles, including James Dean's Porsche Spyder, Elvis' Cadillac, John Lennon's Rolls Royce and Steve McQueen's Jaguar. - American Muscle Car Specials: Six brand new hour-long specials from the producers of SPEED Channel's popular program. A celebration of the power that defined popular American cars from the 1960's and 70's. - International Car Shows: SPEED Channel will take viewers to some of the hottest car shows on the planet, taking them along to behind-the-scenes parties and giving them an early look at concept cars from the world's top automakers. Stops on the 12-episode journey include, Paris, Madrid, Geneva and Beijing. Not to neglect some of the best shows in the U.S., New York, Chicago and Miami also are on the slate. - Classic Films: Look for a collection of racing films and enthusiast cult classics to be part of the regular Autorotica rotation.
"Autorotica opens new programming doors for SPEED Channel," said Robert Ecker, SPEED Channel's VP of Programming. "We are excited about the specials we have under contract, and possibly even more excited about other concepts we have in various stages of development."
