2004 DETROIT AUTO SHOW: More Than 60 Worldwide And North American Vehicle Debuts

DETROIT, Jan. 4, 2004; With the opening of the 2004 North American International Auto Show Press Preview today, automobile manufacturers are unveiling an array of new vehicles. This year, more than 60 production and concept vehicles will make their worldwide and North American debuts at the nation's premier auto show, today through Jan. 19, 2004, at Cobo Center in Detroit.

"To kick off our 88th year, the NAIAS 2004 will introduce more than 60 vehicles and host more than 40 press conferences and press events," said NAIAS 2004 Senior Co-Chairman Chuck Fortinberry. "Once again, the NAIAS is taking the lead as one of the most prestigious automotive events in the world."

In addition to the numerous vehicle introductions, the NAIAS 2004 will feature an expanded display area in Michigan Hall filled with exciting new products, including an all-new specialty vehicle exhibit. Exhibitors include leading carmakers American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Ford Motor Co., Hyundai Motor America, Mopar Speedshop, Scion and Subaru of America, Inc., as well as a limited number of luxury manufacturers and suppliers including ASC Incorporated and Microheat.

The NAIAS 2004 will once again feature the announcement of the North American Car and Truck of the Year. This year's North American Car of the Year finalists are the Cadillac XLR, Mazda RX-8 and Toyota Prius, while the Cadillac SRX, the Ford F-150 and Nissan Titan are finalists for the North American Truck of the Year. The winners will be announced at a press conference today at 10:45 a.m. in Michigan Hall, Cobo Center.

The Charity Preview, the world's largest single-night charity event, is on pace to sell out once again. Scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9, the event will host 17,500 guests and anticipates to raise a record fundraising goal of $7 million for 11 local Detroit children's charities. The event has generated in excess of $44 million since the show became international in 1989.

During last year's show, more than 6,000 media attended Press Preview Days, more than 27,000 industry employees and supporters from 2,000 international and domestic companies attended Industry Preview Days and approximately 810,699 people attended during Public Days.

NAIAS 2004 Official Dates

Cobo Center in Detroit will host the NAIAS 2004 starting on Sunday, Jan. 4 with the first of three official Press Days that run through Tuesday, Jan. 6. NAIAS Industry Preview Days will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7 and Thursday, Jan. 8. The 2004 show will open to the public on Saturday, Jan. 10, and run through Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day).

In January 2003, Detroit concluded its 87th Auto Show, representing the 15th consecutive year as the expanded North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).
