Cummins Inc. Chosen by Swift Transportation to Power Over 2,000 Heavy-Duty Trucks in 2004; Proven ISX Engine in Two Year Volvo Truck Deal

COLUMBUS, Ind.--Dec. 1, 20038, 2003--Cummins Inc. today announced that Swift Transportation, one of the leading truckload carriers in North America, selected the Cummins ISX engine as the primary power in a two year agreement with Volvo Trucks North America, Inc.

The Cummins ISX engine was chosen as a result of an extensive evaluation conducted by Swift during the past year.

"We are pleased with the order and the confidence placed in Cummins and our products by Swift Transportation," said Jeff Jones, Cummins Vice President, Sales and Support. "Cummins has worked very hard to ensure that our new heavy-duty engines will meet the demanding requirements of our customers and this order validates our efforts. Driver reaction to the ISX has been very positive, in addition to providing excellent reliability and operating cost performance," added Jones.

It is expected that more than 2,000 ISX engines will be supplied to Swift during each year of the agreement.

The ISX engine was the first heavy-duty truck engine to be certified and compliant to the 2004 EPA standards when it was first introduced in April 2002. Since that time, over 25,000 Cummins heavy-duty engines have accumulated over one billion miles of real-world service, positioning Cummins as the number one supplier of heavy-duty engines meeting the new standard since October 2002.

Cummins has a full range of medium-duty and heavy-duty engines certified and compliant to the 2004 EPA standard.
