A sponsor of the event for the 10th consecutive year, Johnson Controls will present a product and technology display in room D2-15 of Detroit's Cobo Center, and will convene two press conferences.
On Sunday, January 4, 2004 at 9:50 a.m., Johnson Controls will hold a news conference at its exhibit. Company officials will unveil a concept total interior, called 3E, which focuses on Ecology, Economy and Ergonomics. Also slated to debut is an industry-first, new seating product for vehicle second and third rows.
A second media briefing is scheduled for Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 11:15 a.m., at the same site. At this event, Johnson Controls executives will highlight new products being launched for the new vehicle model year. Executives also will provide updates on the company's electronics products and announce partnerships for two of Johnson Controls' electronics products -- the HomeLink(R) Wireless Control System and the Point(TM) Location Based Trip Information System.
Automotive customers and media representatives visiting the exhibit will see the company's latest concept vehicle interiors and product displays, including seating, electronics, cockpits and instrument panels, overhead systems and door systems.
"The products and concepts on display at the North American International Auto Show are a testament to Johnson Controls' commitment to supply our customers with best-in-class components that are innovative and have a high level of craftsmanship," said Jeff Edwards, group vice president and general manager, North America / Japan, for the Automotive Group of Johnson Controls. "We are dedicated to offering high-quality interior products that provide consumers with both convenience and functionality."
Among the products and concepts on display are: -- 3E (Ecology, Economy and Ergonomics) Concept Interior -- an example of a near-future vehicle cabin designed to have universal appeal for several generations of consumers, and to provide solutions linked to emerging societal trends. With this interior, designers at Johnson Controls attempted to meet current expectations for drivers in terms of cockpit amenities and comfort, while also placing an increased emphasis on innovative, rear-compartment utility, comfort and features; -- Open Seating(TM) -- a complete seat system that brings real innovation and a new level of comfort and utility to second- and third-row seats of cars, trucks and minivans. This first-of-its-kind seating product features side bolsters that provide comfort similar to the front row, when the seat is deployed and fold completely flat when the seat is stowed; -- Floor Rail Interior Personalization System -- an aluminum rail that is integrated into the vehicle load floor that enables one or more consoles to be moved fore and aft and positioned in any location along the rail; and -- Railport(TM) Vehicle Personalization System -- a product that offers consumers the ability to customize the interior of their vehicles at the point of purchase and throughout a vehicle's lifecycle. Integrated into a vehicle's overhead system, Railport features flexible docking technology that provides for the attachment of a variety of modular devices.
The company also will sponsor the AutoWeek Design Forum for the eighth consecutive year. It will be held at Cobo Center on Wednesday, January 7, 2004, in conjunction with the 2004 NAIAS.
