DriveCam Video Systems Receives $1.87 Million U.S. Marine Corps Contract for Fleet Safety Products
SAN DIEGO--Dec. 1, 20037, 2003--DriveCam Video Systems, a developer of fleet safety technology, announced today that it has been awarded a five-year solicitation contract by the U.S. Marine Corps in the amount of $1.87 million for the purchase of DriveCam fleet safety products and services. Under the terms of the agreement, all Marine facilities in the Southwest Region are eligible to purchase from the contract.DriveCam's Driving Feedback System combines in-vehicle video technology and management software to reduce the cost of poor driving. By changing driving behavior, the Driving Feedback System has lowered annual accident rates by 35% to 70%. The system was initially installed on vehicles at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base to improve driving safety and determine the cause of unidentified vehicle damage. Soon the 29 Palms Marine Base, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, Bridgeport, and the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot (MCRD) in San Diego installed the system on its vehicles due to the recommendation of the regional fleet manager.
"DriveCam is simple to use, simple to install, and it monitors our vehicles 24 hours a day," said Gary Funk, regional fleet manager. "Since installing the system in Camp Pendleton vehicles, the tax dollars spent on accidents has been reduced by 39 percent. A substantial portion of this is attributable to the DriveCam program and its ability to encourage safer driving by the vehicle operators."
In addition to determining the cause of vehicle damage, the Marines have used DriveCam recordings for driver counseling and for proving fault in the case of an accident. At Camp Pendleton, DriveCam recordings are used for training at staff and safety meetings.
"This contract award is evidence of DriveCam Video System's strong position as a provider of fleet safety products that improve driving habits and lower collisions," said Ed Andrew, president of DriveCam. "We have developed a solid foundation and a proven product line that provides real savings for commercial fleets of all types."
