FIPER, a Four Year Project Co-Sponsored by the National Institute for Standards and Technology, G.E., Goodrich, Engineous Software, OAI, Ohio U., and Parker Hannifin Comes to a Close

CINCINNATI--Dec. 1, 20037, 2003--

Engineous Software Demonstrates the Power of Commercially Available FIPER Solution at 2003 Workshop

Engineous Software, Inc. today announced the completion of the R&D phase of the FIPER Project. FIPER is a four-year venture co-funded by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) as part of its Advanced Technology Program. The goal of the project is to establish and commercialize a Federated Intelligent Product EnviRonment (FIPER) that streamlines the design of engineered products, integrating legacy and best-of-breed analytical and design tools through a web-enabled environment.

The FIPER joint venture team includes Engineous Software, Goodrich, General Electric, OAI, Parker Hannifin and Ohio University. Utilizing FIPER 1.0, Engineous currently has several projects underway with major manufacturing organizations around the world. As the commercialization agent, it is Engineous Software's role to proliferate the technology in the market.

The FIPER team will meet in December 2003 to make their final presentation to NIST and to hold a FIPER technology workshop. "I am extremely pleased with the accomplishments of the FIPER team over the last four years," said Jack Boudreaux, NIST Project Manager. "NIST ATP funded projects have a fundamental goal to develop commercialized products that can bring broad economic benefits to the U.S. economy. In that regard, I think the prospects for FIPER success are very good."

The FIPER technology connects resources within an organization through a network of internal or external partners and geographically dispersed design teams. The technology establishes a standard communication protocol for integrating and executing design tools and legacy applications, based on industry-standard languages such as Java and XML. In addition, FIPER:

-- maximizes return on investment in existing computer hardware and software through more efficient use of available global resources during the execution of the design process.

-- captures, documents, and standardizes organizations' design practices and processes.

-- eliminates mundane, iterative tasks by automatically managing the execution of applications, freeing up engineers to focus on design and interpretation of results.

-- fills a critical void in today's PLM solution by adding a process integration and design optimization layer within existing PLM infrastructures.

"The FIPER technology has been a vision of Engineous since early in the development of our technology roadmap," said Dr. Siu Tong, Engineous chairman and founder. It extends the process integration and design optimization capabilities of our flagship product iSIGHT to both intra-and inter-company teams, improving the speed and quality of new product introduction through more efficient global design collaboration."

The FIPER technology is an open, flexible framework. Engineous will extend the services available in the FIPER environment by partnering with other commercial vendors and researchers. Currently the company has established over 15 partnerships, with hardware and software vendors, solution providers and Universities. Several of these organizations will be presenting at the FIPER workshop that will follow the NIST closeout meeting. ITI Transcendata, Engineering Intent, Ohio University, IBM, NEC, HP, Sun Microsystems, Fluent, Simmetrix, and Platform Computing will be presenting their contributions to the FIPER project and product commercialization.
