Scott Pruett Named to 2003 AARWBA All-America Team
LANSING, Mich. (Dec. 12, 2003) ‹ 2003 Motorock Trans-Am Tour for the
BFGoodrich Tires Cup champion Scott Pruett has been named to the First Team
of the 2003 Auto Racing All-America Team, as voted by members of the
American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association. Scott Pruett, a
seven-time All-America, won his fifth First-Team vote this season after
earning his third Trans-Am title.
³I¹m honored, especially when you consider where this award comes from,²
said Pruett, who won eight Trans-Am races this year in 11 starts, while also
working as a television announcer for most of SPEED¹s Champ Car World Series
broadcasts. ³Being a broadcaster myself, I have a new understanding of how
much work it is being part of the press. Most drivers don¹t know how much
work these men and women put in.
³It¹s exciting,² added Pruett, who returned to Trans-Am competition in 2003
after an eight-year break, during which he competed in NASCAR and the Champ
Car World Series. ³Coming off this Cinderella season, where we just
dominated, I¹m just overwhelmed.²
Pruett joins ALMS champion Ron Fellows on the Road Racing First Team. Other
First Team members are: Gil de Ferran, Scott Dixon and Paul Tracy (Open
Wheel); Ryan Newman and Matt Kenseth (Stock Car); Larry Dixon and Tony
Pedregon (Drag Racing); J.J. Yeley and Steve Kinser (Short Track); Brian
Vickers and Frank Kimmel (Touring Series); and A.J. Allmendinger and Mark
Taylor (At Large).
The AARWBA Auto Racing All-America Team will be honored Jan. 10 at the 34th
annual AARWBA banquet at the Sheraton Suites in Pomona, Calif. First Team
members will receive the distinctive Horsepower Award, and the driver who
received the most votes‹not revealed until the banquet‹receives the Jerry
Titus Award emblematic of the team's Driver of the Year.
