Sasser Motor Sports to Auction Equipment

ROCKINGHAM, N.C., Dec. 11, 2003 -- Jimmy Sasser hasn't closed the door on racing yet.

"I'd love to get back into it," he said.

Sasser and his son, Kevin, ventured into the business four years ago. Sasser Motor Sports was created with the purchase of a truck team.

"We picked up a few races to run in 1998," he said. "Then, in 1999, we decided to mess with a few Busch races."

Kevin along with several other rookies drove for Sasser Motor Sports in the Busch Series and later, in the USAR Hooters ProCup.

"We kept trying to secure a sponsorship but couldn't get anything concrete," Sasser said.

While trying to maintain racing dates and sponsorship money, both Jimmy and his son were managing their construction company, which is based in Gibsonville, N.C.

  "We couldn't run a full schedule for working," he said.
  The two had a choice to make.

"We could either build a new place to store all the equipment or we could relocate the business," Sasser said. "We decided to sell."

On Thursday, Jan. 8, the team's equipment will be offered at public auction.

It was a hard decision to make, Sasser said.

"Kevin is still battling with it," he said. "But I don't know when we'll get back in it. I'd love to, though."

If the Sasser family decides they miss the fast-pace of racing life, they know where to find some equipment.

"I guess we could always go to an auction and find some," Sasser said.

Iron Horse Auction Company will offer equipment from Sasser Motor Sports at public auction Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. at the race shop in Gibsonville. Major items will be broadcast live over the Internet on NAALIVE.com.

Items to be offered include a 2001 Monte Carlo Hooter ProCup car, a 2000 Ford Taurus Hutch STD Speedway Car, a 2000 Ford Taurus Hutch STD Intermediate Car, a 1997 International Eagle Tractor Truck, a 1995 Competition Trailer Race Car and truck transporter and numerous other equipment.
